About Coritas

We help leaders find the path that pressure reveals.

Coritas Strategies is a boutique consultancy working with organizations and communities at the moments that matter most. We treat resilience not as a way to absorb shocks, but as the foundation for strategy and decisive action.

Our point of view

From recovery to direction.

Recovery asks how to return to where you were. We ask a harder and more useful question: where is this pressure pointing you, and is that somewhere worth going?

Adversity strips away the comfortable and the assumed. The institutions that emerge stronger from a hard season are rarely the ones that returned to their former shape. They are the ones that read the moment honestly and chose a more deliberate direction. That is the work we do alongside the leaders we serve.

Our team

The people behind the work.

Kate Abegg, Founder of Coritas Strategies

Kate Abegg

Founder

The composure that steadies a leader through a crisis is something Kate learned where there was no margin for error — because lives depended on it. She began her career as a critical-care trauma nurse before moving into emergency medical transport, first by ambulance, then by helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft, making split-second decisions with people's survival on the line. Those years sharpened the skills she relies on today: sound judgment under pressure, rapid assessment of complex situations, and the discipline to act decisively when the stakes are highest.

She carried that instinct into business, holding several leadership roles before moving into defense contracting, where she joined an early-stage firm founded by two partners. Through strong performance she rose in title and earned equity in the business, ultimately leading it as chief executive and growing it into a thriving, woman-owned company — building out its operations, strategy, and program management as it delivered engineering and tactical-communications work for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Coritas Strategies brings that experience full circle. Kate holds a Master of Science in Emergency and Disaster Health Systems and a Certificate in Emergency Management, and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Cybersecurity at UMBC's College of Engineering and Information Technology, where her work increasingly centers on where cybersecurity meets public policy. She works with leaders navigating difficulty who want to emerge with clearer purpose — because resilience, properly understood, is direction.

Dr. Adam Howard, Senior Advisor at Coritas Strategies

Dr. Adam Howard

Senior Advisor, Applied History and Leadership

Dr. Adam Howard leads the executive programs at Coritas Strategies, drawing on a career spent where history meets high-stakes decision-making. He served as The Historian of the U.S. Department of State and Director of its Office of the Historian, and earlier as General Editor of the Foreign Relations of the United States — the official documentary record of American foreign policy. In those roles he led the historians who preserve and interpret the diplomatic record and prepared analyses that informed decisions at the highest levels of government.

He is now Executive Director of the International Churchill Society and an adjunct professor of history and international affairs at George Washington University. Dr. Howard holds a Ph.D. in U.S. history from the University of Florida and a graduate certificate in Organizational Learning and Change — pairing the long view of history with how leaders and institutions actually change. He is the author of Sewing the Fabric of Statehood (University of Illinois Press, 2017) and editor of several volumes on twentieth-century diplomacy and the Arab–Israeli dispute.

In Coritas programs, history becomes a practical tool rather than a subject. He draws on the long record of how institutions and leaders have navigated crisis to sharpen judgment, widen the range of options a leader can see, and reason clearly when the stakes are high and the path is uncertain.
